 Due to popular demand, we have made our ethics/philosophy club a regular occurrence.  Join us over coffee to discuss big questions and small.  There may not be clear right or wrong answers, but these topics are sure to get the gears turning and the conversation flowing!




Family Labor Day Picnic (12:00 - noon)

  Ahhh Labor Day- a day when most of the hardworking public of America gets to kick back and relax.  What could be better than that?  How about sharing the time with your loved one(s) at Laurel Estates over a free picnic lunch?

A.C.E. (Association Of Creative Elders) Painting Class (3:30 pm)

 Working with a trained Art Therapist, our Residents learn painting techniques for creating landscapes, animals, people or anything they can dream up!  Finished paintings make wonderful gifts for friends and family, to decorate your apartment, or to display in our Resident Art Gallery.




Needlework Group (6:00 pm)

  Join us in the Library with your latest project, be it a knitted sweater, a crocheted scarf, a counted cross-stitch or even your basic mending.  Good company and conversation always adds to the soothing hobby of needlework.

 All ages and style of stitchers are invited to join our intergenerational stitch group.  Want to learn to knit?  Are you a pro embroiderer?  Can't get the knack of that crochet pattern?  join us for some knowledge-trading, fiber fun and good company!  This is a free event open to the public.





Poker Game (1:00 pm)

 Are you feeling lucky??  Five card draw is the usual game of choice here.  Residents play for pocket change on our professional card table.  Preferred playing size is at 4-6 people for this game, so please come early to get a seat!




Recreation Committee Meeting (1:30 pm)

 Bring your ideas for fun to the table as we brainstorm about outings, special events, crafts, cooking and parties at our open Recreation Committee meeting.  We are happy to claim that nearly every suggestion is made a reality from these meetings!

 Check out one of the latest crazes sweeping the country.  The Nintendo Wii video game system allows players to participate in their favorite sports and game shows without overextending themselves physically.  From bowling to tennis to baseball and more.  Come try out the system that your grandkids and great grandkids are all playing!




Colonial Kitchenware Presentation With Local Historian, Ginny Reinhardt (3:30 pm)

 Orange's gem of a historian, Ginny Reinhardt joins us with a wide selection of cooking implements you would expect to see in any colonial kitchen.  Reflect back to a simpler time when all food was prepared by hand, and all food was "organic"!

Pet Therapy With The West Haven Animal Shelter (3:30 pm)

 Join Officer Jim Vitelli and his four-legged friends when the West Haven Animal Shelter comes to visit.  All of these sweethearts are adoptable and we want to take the opportunity to remind everyone that Laurel Estates is a pet-friendly community!  When Jim heads back, we always send him off with our collections from our on-going pet supply drive located in the lobby.  Thank you everyone for being so generous!

Live Entertainment With Don Salvatore (2:00 pm)

Every Friday we enjoy the musical talents of a local musician in our restaurant-style Dining Room.  This week, the country-western melodies of Don Salvatore will give us something to stomp our feet to.  After enjoying this live concert, why not join us across the hall for drinks at Happy Hour?





Happy Hour In The Tavern (3:00 pm)

 The Tavern always gets pretty packed for our weekly tradition of winding down the week with friends.  Right after our usual Friday live entertainment, join us for wine, beer, and the occasional mixed drink, served with a smile.

 National Assisted Living Week is celebrated from September 12th-18th this year.  It’s a chance to celebrate our Residents, our staff, and all that Assisted Living encompasses.  The theme this year is “Living Life”, which is quite broad.  Given our community’s love of the arts, we decided to focus on “The Art of Living Life”. Keep an eye out for the many special activities we have planned for this week!

 




Billiards (10:00 am)

 Pick up a cue and billiard balls from our Reception desk, and challenge a friend to a game on our billiards table, located in the second-floor lobby.




Bingo (2:00 pm)

 The age-old classic!  Match the numbers called to the numbers on your card to win the pot!  We play for pocket change, so please bring at least $1 in change.  Five cents per card (max 2 per player)




NALW Event: Friendship Social (3:30 pm)

As we celebrated family at the beginning of the week, so we celebrate the ART of FRIENDSHIP at a special afternoon Friendship Social, with a special cake, coffee, tea, and good company.




Saturday Afternoon Poker (4:00 pm)

 Our staff once again breaks out the card table for pick up games of poker in the Tavern.




Saturday Night Cinema (6:00 pm)

 Join us for a movie on the big screen every Saturday night.  Descriptions of this week's movie are located in your daily event's packet, on our Daily Events Board, and on your dining room table.

Church Transportation (9:30 am)

 Our chauffeur, Jay is available to drive Residents to and from their local churches for Sunday services.
